After the 1000 Years -- TIERS, the Third antichrist



Bust of NeroAt the end of the page about The Hamathian we identified three antichrists: Nero, Hamath and a third to come following the millennium - a woman.

We also quoted two verses dealing with Satan being bound in the 'bottomless pit' for a thousand years so that there might be peace on earth. In order for a third evil leader to emerge after the thousand years, Satan must be 'loosed' for a 'little season': 276 years [see Chronolgy.].

The mystery of evil is the greatest mystery in the universe, one that has led more questioning souls into darkness than any other. Aside from the puzzle of how God can let evil reside within His creation, perhaps the two greatest mysteries within the mystery of evil are how He will bind perdition for 1,000 years, and, once bound, why He would let Satan loose for a minute, let alone 276 years.

The nature of the events leading into the millennium of peace require a logical progression towards the events following the thousand years. The battles prior to the millennium will comprise primarily spiritual elements. When the heavens open and the spiritual armies pour forth upon the earth, the deception of materialism must crumble. Isaiah says that Satan will no longer deceive the people of the earth. There will be a rejoining of spiritual and material perception, such as Abraham had, for instance, when he sat in front of his tent in the heat of the day; seeing three men approach he runs to meet then, and calls them 'Lord' (Gen. 18:1-3).

This coming together of spiritual and material perception (impossible with empirical science alone) is a confusing concept, but necessary in order to interpret end-time events. For example, Nostradamus makes numerous references to shadows¥; these must be accepted as spiritual beings, not carnal people. Obviously, as in the case of Abraham, we will see spiritual beings and material beings dwelling in the same place, and probably being aware of each other. This likely holds true for both millennial and post-millennial times.
[¥ Hebrew tsêl, or tsâlal; from tsêl comes tsalah - to roast [darken]; tsalal means to become dark, also to tumble down or sink, to rattle or quiver with fear, or redden with shame. Shadows have no true substance, but take their form from material objects; when there is no light, shadows dominate everything.]

Nostradamus leads us to this conclusion in his Epistle, where he says that when the reign of peace will be established among men, even still the Azostains will wish to mix in the honey of bitterness and their pestilent seduction. This term Azostains has remained one of the seer's enigmatic mysteries. It is not that the word is so difficult to find, but it is difficult to interpret without a proper context, so commentators have looked elsewhere for other words. In the Latin we find asotus - a sensualist and libertine; this traces back to the Greek asotos§- not to be saved, to be abandoned, profligate. This definition is very close to the truth, especially in Christian terms. But the Greek yields another word - azostos - which is the secret meaning of Azostains. It means ungirded or unclothed - in this case with flesh and righteousness. This is a very important element of millennial peace.
[§ The word may relate to the Hebrew word Ashdod - ravager; this word contains the ancient name of a malignant demon to the Jews: Shode: The Spolier.]

In the Hebrew, the word for shadow [an English word that coincidentally also contains the word Shode] also means phantom, from a root word which means an opaque object, also an idol or image.

VI-50  Dedans le puys seront trouvés les oz.           variant puits
           Sera l'incest conmis par la maratre:               variant: commis
           L'estat changé, on querra bruict et loz,
           Et aura Mars attendant pour son astre.

          Within the pit [sic] will be found the bones.
          Incest will be committed by the stepmother;
          The state changed, one will seek fame and praise,
          And will have Mars attendant for his star.

The phonetic az - as - ash [Ashdod] will prove productive in interpreting this verse. For example, note oz - bones, in line one. The Latin os [from oris] means mouth, mask or opening; also os [from ossis] means bone or inmost being. A mask can cover the inmost being.

One in line three could be 'îsh in Hebrew, which means (a) man, husband or one.

Îshhôd - a Hebrew word which points to the word Ashdod - means man of renown [line three.]

Incest is not directly referred to in the Hebrew Bible, but the most likely words would seem to hint at the name Sarah.

There is no directly related term in Hebrew for stepmother; curiously - perhaps tellingly - the Hebrew for father-in-law is cham [Ham] and the word for mother-in-law is chamoth [Hamath]. It appears that at the end of the Millennium, the spirit of Ham will once again rise up to re-establish it's opposition to the kingdom of Messiah.

Once again the state is changed, this time for the worse - the opposite of the change at the end of the sixth day. One of the changes Nostradamus mentions just prior to the Millennium is masks. This change would involve the relationship between material and spiritual perception - or deception.

Seeking fame and praise is not a road to peace; it implies competitiveness and self- agrandisement. Fame in Hebrew is shem.

In Latin aura can be read as light or even breath [spirit]. Both apply in the context: the spirit of Mars [war god], and the light of Mars: astre - star. Sera in line two is an angram of Ares, the Greek name for Mars; the name Sarah has already been mentioned.

In the esoteric tradition, even the position of this verse - VI-50, or 6 and 5 - implies a state of change: a crossing of spiritual and material existence.

In a similar vein is V-87:

V-87  L'an que Saturne hors de servage,
          Au franc terroir sera d'eau inundé:
          De sang Troyen sera son mariage,
          Et sera ceur d'Espaignois circundé.

          The year that Satan out of bondage,
          In the free land he will be inundated with water;
          His marriage will be with the blood of Troy,
          And he will be safe from the Spanish enclosed.

In pre-millennial verses we encountered Satan in the word Senat; but Saturn plays an important role in post-millennial events, and is apparently the cipher for Satan used by Nostradamus in this latter time period.

Bondage in Hebrew is 'abad, or a'bodah, or a'bdon, all of which refer to the demon prince Abaddon. According to Revelation 9:11, Abaddon is the angel of the 'bottomless pit', seemingly the one in which Satan is bound.

In the ancient esoteric tradition water is a symbol of spirit; what inundated with water likely means is that, by whatever means Satan is bound, he is freed by the incest to return to the spirit, where he can once again vex the earth. Like shadows, in a sense, water has no true form of its own; water assumes the shape of the vessel that contains it. It can congeal into ice [flesh], or evaporate as a vapor [death].

Speaking of the incest, note that sera occurs three times openly in the verse, as well as in Saturne and servage. Sera noticeably refers to Ares in the present context. The Hebrew sharah means a female kindred by blood (line three). The French son is masculine, but this could be a blind to keep from exposing the gender of the subject too obviously.

Using this tack in the previous verse, line two could read, 'Sera will commit incest by (par - Peor?) the stepmother...' The mixture of spiritual and material elements in this period injects confusion.

Franc could imply 'France' also, being inundated by water. Spain seems to move the context here to Europe.

Trojan can mean many things. Primarily it means Troy, an ancient people of Asia Minor. It could mean the French royal line, which claims descent through a son of King Priam of Troy - Francus (apparently a mythical son.) It might mean a war-like people, especially Italy, through Ascanius, son of the Trojan warrior Aeneas, founder of Alba Longa, a precursor of Rome.

It is well to remember two things in this context; one, this is the age of the ascendancy of the woman; and two, Troy is best known in history for its war with the Greeks, because they had kidnapped a beautiful woman: Helen, and carried her back to their walled city.

Ceur (line four) is taken to be seur, an older form of sûr - sure, safe, secure. Other editions write sûr. The term was prominent in the pre-millennial tribulation, referring to the city of Tyre.

What the Spanish could have to do with this is anyone's guess. Circundé could refer to border, crown or harbor.

III-92  Le monde proche du dernier periode,
           Saturne encor tard sera de retour:
           Translat empire devers nation Brodde,
           L'oeil arraché à Narbon par Autour.

           The world near to the closing period,
           Saturn (Satan) will be late again in (his) return;
           The empire changed towards the Brodde nation,
           The eye pulled out at Narbonne by Autour.

The planet Saturn has been considered a malefic influence by uranometrists for some time, thus the identification of Saturn with Satan in this period is closely linked by Nostradamus. Here we read that he will be late again in his return. The only thing that could interrupt the orbit of Saturn would seemingly be an intruder in the solar system at this time close to the closing period.

Translate implies a changing.

The elements sera and par occur in this verse also.

To be late in Hebrew is âchar: hinder, be late, tarry. Achar was the troubler of Israel.

Again and return can both be [in Hebrew] shânâh - to duplicate, do again, change, double, disguise, return.

Brodde can be traced to the Old French word brode, meaning dark or decadent. The word undoubtedly points back into the Old German, having to do with boiled and 'a dark broth' [brod].

There has been much speculation who these dark dusky people are. Our inclination is to settle it in the Hebrew, where we find the ethnic name of arab or arabian derives from a root 'arab - to grow dusky at sundown, or 'be darkened towards evening' [final period]. The name likely does not originally derive from their skins, but from the fact that Arabia lay east of Palestine, therefore night fell earlier. Nevertheless, the proper name means sterility, taken from 'arab. [One needs to remember that Arabs derived from Abraham also, but from a concubine, not from Sarah, his wife. The term is undoubtedly intended derisively.]

Also, as to decadent, the word Arabia, as used in I Kings 10:15, means 'a mixed' or 'mingled multitude,' perhaps implying a degenerated stock. As used as a name of a town in Joshua 15:52, it means ambush.

'Network' - a post-millenial element [from Britannica]This word 'arab and its variations in the Hebrew will prove a key to understanding many of the events in this whole closing period of 276 years. For example, êreb means a web [or network; the term applies to trellis - a lattice work@ - in the chapter on Gog and Magog], a mongrel race, mingled people. Similarly, ârôb indicates swarming, like flies or locusts, another prominent element in this period. Ârab means to lurk, (lie in) ambush, (lie in) wait; ereb is an ambuscade, lie in wait; ôreb means wait [tarry, be late]. Slightly expanding the phonetic yields arbeh: a locust. Arba is four; after Tiers - the third [see below] - the number four becomes prominent in such words as quarter, for example. Yârêb [Jareb] is a symbolical name for Assyria.
[@ Isaiah 19:9 - they that weave networks shall be confounded. Mat 13:47 - the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind. Psa 31:4 - Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me. Psa 35:7 - For without cause they have hid for me their net in a pit... The Hebrew word for bands in Ezekiel 38 and 39 is aggaph - a cover or wings of an army [as interlaced]. The Hebrew word used in Ezekiel 38:9 & 16 for cover is kaçah - to fill up hollows {arches}, to cover for clothing or secrecy, a throne {as covered}. These seemingly unrelated elements: mingled, network, hollows {arches}, bands and swarms {of locusts} are linked by the concept of lattice - intertwined.]

Autour occurs in a number of quatrains; it means goshawk, a small hawk, or simply 'round about'. This latter phrase is likely a reference to Ezra - Hebrew 'azar for surround or, as 'help' [secours] - 'Ezra. The Hebrew words 'azar and zârâh are both also worthy of notice during this period.

Narbonne would seem to point towards Samarobrin, although it seems a bit out of place in this context.

IX-17   Le tiers premier pis que ne fait Neron,
            Vuidez vaillant que sang humain respandre:
            R'edifier sera le forneron,
            Siecle d'or, mort, nouveau roi grand esclandre.

            The third worse than the first, (worse than) Nero,
            Stout-hearted, see how much human blood pouring out;
            The furnace will be rebuilt,
            Age of gold, dead, new king, great scandal.

Line one does not translate easily, but is best rendered as given.

Tiers - the third - is the third antichrist, as we shall presently see.

Nero sacrificing the Christians to the lionsAt the top of this page we identified Nero and Hamath as the previous two antichrists. Nero is said to have exterminated over 100 thousand Jews outside of Palestine alone; he was also a scourge to the early Christian church - famous for feeding them to the lions as scapegoats for the burning of Rome.

Note in line three sera the furnace; Forneron§ - technically an apprentice who feeds the baker's oven in Old French - is likely just a slight change of forneau to complete the rhyme. Whether one builds the furnace, or stokes it, the heat of passion and hatred will be fanned by the work.
[§ Lat. fornax - oven, furnace; furnaria - the baker's trade; fornix - an arch, vault, [later] brothel; fornicatus: arched; the English word fornicate is so derived, denoting the place the Roman 'ladies' plied their trade; arch[-ed] - or vaulted - figures in the narrative of this bloody period.]

arch, as 'thrusting upwards' or 'covering' - from Microsoft's EncartaOne Hebrew word for furnace is kûr; kôr is a deep round vessel [hollows], which concept relates to arch.

The Age of Gold is the Millennium of Peace. Not only is the period of peace dead, but death re-enters the scene upon the earth: a period of death.

The new king - or youth, as given in some quatrains - is Tiers. Actually, she should be called Emperess, as her kingdom is referred to in THE CENTURIES as an empire.

Scandal or shame is one key to this verse; choosing the Hebrew sha'arurahº, a fearful or horrible thing, reveals our phonetic early in this page - sera/sarah - reinforced by the repetition of sera/Ares [line three]. It also could denote a place - Bashan (boshnah - shame), connected with Gog and Magog and his horde in Ezekiel chapter 39.
sha'arûrâh - a horrible thing; Greek skandalon - a trap laid for an enemy, a stumbling block. The word ambuscade is another prominent element in this period in THE CENTURIES.]

For the sake of brevity many details have been glossed over on this web site; a more complete exposition is given in the book manuscript. However, perhaps tying much of what has been alluded to here, and confirming the Universal Prophetic Calendar as the system used by Nostradamus, here is verse III-77.

III-77  Le tiers climat sous Aries comprins,
           L'an mil sept cens vingt et sept en Octobre:
           Le Roy de Perse par ceux d'Egypt prins:
           Conflit, mort, perte: à la croix grand approbre.

           The third region included under Aries,
           The year thousand seven hundreds twenty and seven in October;
           The King of Persia taken by those of Egypt;
           Conflict, death, loss: great disgrace to the cross.

Climat is a blind. In the Old French it meant region, and has set off a wave of astrological garble about what geographical regions come under what planets and signs. In reality it yields an anagram of malict, an Old French word for malice or wickedness. Tiers is the third evil since the time of Christ - Nero, Hamath and Tiers.

The French tiers comes from Latin tertius: third; according to Cicero, the third reign is the lower world. What is probably implied is that tiers is under the rule of Hades, the land of shadows.

Ares/sera has already been explained.

Fanciful rendering of the demon prince Asmodeus - 1863The dating of line two is found by reading seven for thousand as well as hundred, yielding the date October, 7727 (Julian). We said in our chronological calendar that the millennium of peace would end 7724, or 3012 AD by present reckoning. A little less than three years after the end of the Millennium, war will break out (if it hasn't already) when the King of Persia (Iran) is kidnapped.

The Book of Daniel refers to the King of Persia as an evil ambuscade. The word par [line three] next to the royal title adds credence to this interpretation.

What the loss to the cross is is not clear; probably the abrupt end to the reign of peace. Certainly the church will be persecuted again. To lose [perte] is abad in the Hebrew, referring to Abaddon, the princely demon of this short age - Appolyon, or Asmodeus to Medieval scholars - the destroying angel who holds the key to the bottomless pit (Revelation chapter nine.) Asmodeus is referred to in THE CENTURIES as Mandosus, connected with the terrible bloodshed during this period.

The disgrace would presumably be renewed apostasy. This is mentioned in line one of IX-72: Again the holy temples will be defiled.

III-59  Barbare empire par le tiers usurpé,

           Pour peur que le sang par le sang ne soit mort.

           The Barbarian Empire usurped by Tiers,
           The greatest part of its blood put to death;
           By death the old man the fourth struck by him,
           For fear that the blood through the blood be not dead.

The word par permeates this verse like a flood; it appears in all four lines, and twice in line three. In addition, it is hinted at by frappé, pour and peur.

Phoenix of empire rising from its ashesWe have established that tiers refers to the third antichrist, and such an analysis might seem sufficient. There is perhaps also another name implied. In the Hebrew we find the word tirosh£- new wine (transliterated from Hebrew as tirsh, it derives from a word yaresh - to expel, to ruin, to impoverish.) The essential prophecy is found in Hosea 4:11, Whoredom and wine, and new wine take away the heart. New wine is not yet fermented, so the Biblical reference in Hosea is likely to Tiers, the third antichrist.
tîrôsh - expulsion [read husks], must or fresh-squeezed grape juice, new (or sweet) wine, (rarely) fermented wine; Tîrâç: Tiras, a son of Japheth; tîrâh: a wall, fortress, palace, row; târî: dripping, new, putrefying; Tarshîsh: Tarshish [see Ezek. 38:13]; tera [Chald.]: a door, palace, gate [gate-keeper, see The Sentinel Under the Trellises]; from sha'ar: an opening, door, gate, city.]

The name could be similar to Tiers, Tirosh or even Teres [Teresa?]

We mentioned earlier that the number four would also figure in this latter period. If we take the old man to be Saturn [Old Man Time], connected with Tiers - the third, the meaning of line three could be that Tiers is usurped by four - the Barbarian Empire, which would indicate Gog and Magog. As mentioned above, four in Hebrew would be arba - four, fourth, from râba - (four-)square, [quarter].

In line with this idea of new wine is the word jeune in many quatrains of Nostradamus describing this period, translated as youth. One such verse is III-28.

III-28  De terre faible et pauvre parentele,
           Par bout et paix parviendra dans l'Empire:            note: par viendra
           Long temps regner une jeune femelle,
           Qu'oncques en regne n'en survint un pire.

           From weak land and poor parentage [succession],
           Through blow and peace she will succeed unto the Empire;
           A long time a young female to reign,
           Never has one worse burst upon the realm.

Perhaps weak earth is flesh, and poor parentage is the incest mentioned earlier. We see how a youth will come to power. Here we finally discover that it is a young woman - Tiers.

Poor [poverty] in Hebrew is rêysh, which is contained in yârash [above], the root word of tirosh; yârash means to occupy [by driving out previous tenants and possessing in their place - i.e.: those in rest during the Millennium], inherit, (make) poor, succeed.

Faible [Eng.: feeble] comes from a Latin word meaning lamentable¥; the lamentable land is the earth during the seventh day of rest [line three: long temps = The Millennium]. Rest in Hebrew is noah, and lamentable is noahh. There is a great secret locked up here, covered more fully in the book manuscript.
[¥ Old French fieble, from Lat. flebilis: lamentable, wretched; from flere: to weep, drip, trickle.]

Parviendra seems the predominat form in this latter period; before the Millennium they occurred as separate elements: par and viendra.

Burst in Hebrew is tsâlach: to push forward, break out, come [viendra](mightily), prosper [as advancing]; the word contains tsêl: shadow.

VIII-57  De soldat simple parviendra en empire,
              De robe courte parviendra à la longue
              Vaillant aux armes en eglise on plus pire
              Vexer les prestres comme l'eau fait l'esponge.

              From a simple soldier (s)he will succeed unto Empire,
              From the short robe (s)he will attain to the long;
              Valiant in arms, to the church one much worse,
              To vex the priests like water does the sponge.

Greek warrior/goddess AtheneThis verse is included here to tie up a loose end. The verse says that Tiers will atain the empire from a simple soldier - from the short robe. Lest there be any doubt about the source of this woman's ambition, a simple robe in Greek is himation - a direct clue to The Hamathian - the previous antichrist.

The Hebrew word for robe is 'eder - splendor, robe; 'adar means to expand [as a sponge does in water... or as a soldier to an Emperor]; 'addir means famous [renown] or mighty [valiant]; hâdar: to swell [as a sponge], be high or proud [to vaunt oneself as an arch]; heder is used idiomatically for Jerusalem; hadârâh is a decoration, beauty [as a young woman?]

Long in this period seems to refer to erek - Iraq. It could also refer to Meshech, of Gog and Magog. What water does to a sponge is to make it swell - mashak.
